.FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why do computers sometimes freeze?

We torture them! We abort software downloads - we abandon apps that wont close properly, we shut them off unexpectedly, voltages are erratic and cause sensors to do things etc. After a while all of the orphaned files, troubled cut-offs and sensor logs build up, something like bills do in the post ... unwanted deserted junk! At a certain point the computer simply cannot find what its looking for because of all the junk and it stops there ... freeze.

The best way to avoid this is to do a monthly healthy cleanup. To do this you will need a system disc that matches your current operating system in the Mac. Boot with this disk, by inserting it into the Mac, then opening system prefs, selecting it as a startup disk, reboot the computer, and then open the Disk Utility, highlight your drive that contains the system - at the top of the left hand pane that opens, and repair the permissions. Thereafter repair the disc = on the right hand side of the right hand pane. This will prevent most freezes from occuring as well as optimising the speed of your mac. At MacWorx we have all the Mac systems from system 6 onwards. geoffb
